Every student who sold cookie dough MUST pick-up their product WEDNESDAY from the choir room... either immediately after school, OR earlier that afternoon (if someone is able to pick it up for you).

Fall Concert Change...

Due to scheduling problems for BVHS Homecoming Coronation, the Fall Choral Concert is moving from Monday, Sept. 28 to MONDAY, OCTOBER 5 --one week later.  Still 7:30 in the PAC.

Choir members have been informed, and need to arrange the schedule change with employers, etc. ASAP.

This gives the singers one more week of rehearsal, and one more week to find appropriate concert clothing to be worn with the choir robes.  See the "Choir Syllabus" link at the right for details regarding shoes, pants, etc.

Welcome to the Brandon Valley Choirs...

...I am very excited about the new school year, and all the possibilities for the members of the Lynx Choir and Concert Choir!
This site - http://brandonvalleychoir.blogspot.com/ - is the place for all information about choirs at BVHS.
I will use these posts to update and inform you of upcoming events, deadlines, etc., and the Page links to the right will offer more details, such as links to other helpful websites, YouTube performances, etc.  Certain pages, such as "Calendar" or "Syllabus", will be available all year.  Please check the calendar dates for events in which your child will be participating.  Other pages, such as the All-State or Honor Choir pages, will be available during the pertinent weeks or months.

You will also find choir updates, postings, and photos at the Brandon Valley Fine Arts Boosters page on Facebook.

Please take a few moments to scroll through the posts below.  I've started the year with these posts, hopefully they will answer some of the most frequently asked questions.

...and if the posts don't answer your questions, please contact me with an e-mail at Terry.Gullickson@k12.sd.us.

Please see the "Calendar" page at the right for this and other concert dates throughout the year.

All choir members are issued a choir robe to wear in concert.  Under the robe...
...All boys will wear black dress shoes, black dress pants, black socks, and a school-appropriate T-shirt.
...All girls will wear black flat or low-heel closed-toe shoes, a skirt or shorts, and a school-appropriate T-shirt.
Please see the "Syllabus" page at right for more detail regarding concert attire for BVHS singers.

2015 SD All-State Chorus

BV auditions for this year's All-State Chorus will be held after school Wednesday, September 16 in the BVHS choir room.  Two high school directors from Sioux Falls have been invited to audition the BV singers, who will sing in quartets, but be judged individually.

All-State Chorus (and Orchestra) is in Rapid City October 30-31.  Please see the "All-State" page at the right for more info.

...in addition, there is an opportunity for BVMS and HS singers to participate in a six-state honor choir.  See the "NC ACDA" page for more information.

Sewing help?

The BVHS choir robes are are cruising through their second decade, and are holding up pretty well.  Still, there is a considerable amount of wear and tear each year with a few robes-- and particularly so after a trip to Florida.

We are in need of one or two people with some time and talent at a sewing machine.  A number of our robes need some simple "stitch in time" repairs to hems and zippers.  Perhaps you, or someone you know, can help us make our robes last another 15 years?

If you are interested, or have questions, please contact Mr. Gullickson.

Florida update...

Today, each student who is going with the choir to Florida June 2-8 received a note to take home detailing the student's account balance.

By this time (March 10, actually), each student should have $500 in their account.  Please ask to see the note; if you have any questions, please contact Mr. Gullickson

Florida update...fundraising...

Less than four months until the BV Choir trip to Florida!  Understandably, a South Dakota winter has choir members eagerly looking forward to Florida's sun and fun.

We have TWO fundraising opportunities over the next few weeks:

1)  Choir Variety Show Friday, Feb. 20 -- Tickets are available for choir members to sell in advance of the show.  All tickets are $5.  Proceeds from advance sales are credited to the individual seller; at-the-door sales will be shared among all choir members travelling to Florida.  Parents-- encourage your child to sell tickets IN ADVANCE to maximize their profit!  Let Mr. Gullickson know if you would like to have additional tickets to sell for your child.

2)  A number of choir members requested another food-oriented sales fundraiser, so we are again selling frozen cookie dough, along with assorted other frozen and non-frozen foods and other items.
Sales materials have been available to students since late last week, and the sale will run through the end of the month.

ANOTHER reminder that each student's trip account should be at or above $300 at this time, and at $500 by March 10, with all $650 due bye early April (see "Florida! June 2015" link to the right).
Please contact Mr. Gullickson if you have any questions.

Parent-Teacher Conferences... February 9 & 10

I hope to visit with many parents at conferences Monday and Tuesday...
Reminder:  Because I teach in both the MS and HS, my conference times are also shared between buildings.

I am available at the MS MONDAY EVENING,
...and at the HS TUESDAY AFTERNOON.

Please feel free to visit with me at either time, regardless of whether your child is my student at the MS or HS.

Road trip anyone?

Several updates/reminders regarding the choir trip...

First--  It's not too late; there still is time and room for you to join the BV Choirs on our bus trip to Florida June 2-8.
-Choir member with a change of plans?  -Yes, there is room for you!
-Interested in being a chaperone?  -We could use a few more!  The price is affordable for what may be the easiest working vacation you could ever have.
-Family members?  -Yes, over the years we've had a number of families travel with us as an affordable, simple way to visit central Florida.  Maybe you would like to join us?

I've done many long choir bus trips in my life (this will be my fifth WDW trip).  I don't remember that the bus ride was long, or at times, uncomfortable.  I remember how great the choir sounded, I remember compliments from bus drivers, restaurateurs, and hotel managers because BV kids are polite, considerate, and so easy to travel with.  This is a really great trip, and if you choose to join us, you will make great memories to last a lifetime.

...For details, please see the Florida! June 2015 page to the right...
...then contact Mr. Gullickson if you are interested, or have any questions.

Second-- A reminder that students' accounts should be at (or at least near) or above $300 at this time.  A frequently updated spreadsheet listing each student's payments/fundraising is posted in the choir room; parents can contact Mr. Gullickson any time for updates.  In response to students' requests, we will have another sales-oriented fundraiser (in February), as well as a fund-raising BV Choir Variety Show February 20.  ALL trip money needs to be turned in by early April.

Finally--  I will maintain a Florida Itinerary page (see right), and update it regularly as trip details fall into place.

New semester, new possibilities...

The excitement of another Christmas is now long past, and we have survived this year's first (hopefully only) major winter weather event.

2015 holds numerous opportunities and challenges for Lynx and Concert Choir members to grow as singers and as performers.

Parents, please encourage your children to try something new this semester:  Choir Variety Show, Solo/Ensemble Contest, audition for "Grease", audition for SD Honor Choir --all are marvelous opportunities for improving musicianship and self-confidence, as well as creating life-long amazing memories.

Please refer to the Calendar page at the right for details, and contact Mr. Gullickson with any questions.
